Chuck Powell, Associate Pastor, cpowell@ffumc.org

Chuck has been working with the youth at FFUMC since December of 2012, following 3 years in the business world.  Prior to that, Chuck served various churches in Texas, North Carolina, and Tennessee in Youth, Children, Teaching, and Worship ministries. Chuck has also been working closely with the worship ministries of FFUMC since he started here and has been helping plan and design our worship services for several years. Chuck began as  Director of Worship in 2016. Chuck was appointed Associate Pastor in January of 2018.

Chuck and his wife, Janie (a hospital chaplain), are both recipients of Masters of Divinity degrees from the Divinity School of Gardner-Webb University.  Their daughter Zoe was born in December of 2009, and Molly came along in the summer of 2013.

Chuck loves literature, film and is a big-time music snob, with a collection of thousands of CDs and hundreds of vinyl records.  Chuck also, despite growing up mostly in the Knoxville area, spends a lot of time cheering on his beloved Kentucky Wildcats.

Chuck's desire for the youth of FFUMC is for them to experience God's presence in their lives through Bible Study, Prayer, Worship, Community, Fellowship, Service and Evangelism.

John has been in church music all of his life.  As a preacher’s kid, he knew how important music was to the life of a church.  John learned sacred music singing in the adult choir as a freshman in high school.  Hymn singing was always a part of his family’s life growing up.

John has served as the music director for East Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Frist Baptist Church in Crossville, Glenwood Baptist and Meridian Baptist Churches in Knoxville.  He has been serving as the traditional music director (as a volunteer layperson) at First Farragut since 2008.  In addition to his choral background, John also plays the drums, bass and guitar (not all at once) for the contemporary praise service at FFUMC.

John believes that worship through music is at the core of the Methodist Movement.  ‘It is important to sing the right notes and rhythm, but God hears what is on our heart’.
